Chemical Engineering is a universal engineering discipline compared to electrical, mechanical and civil engineering. When I was doing my chemical engineering degree 10 years ago, I don’t know that much about chemical engineering work and discipline. That time, and probably still this time, students decided to choose chemical engineering because they love chemistry. Well, that’s sadly not the case because chemical engineering is not merely about chemistry. In fact, there are more physics and mathematics involve with chemical engineering.

Now, in the new borderless era, students and people new to chemical engineering can learn this discipline far better than those few years ago. With internet dominating the world, we have websites, blogs like this one, facebook, twitter and others to explain and elaborate what is chemical engineering. This, I can say is a new version or strategy of learning the so call online chemical engineering. With online chemical engineering, information and discussion related to chemical engineering is easily discussed, exposed and distributed. More and more chemical engineering lecturers are using web 2.0 in e-learning as a medium to enhance and stimulate chemical engineering teaching among the students.

I have earlier created chemical engineering world blog in 2006 when I was working as a process engineer in an edible oil refinery. That time, I created my blog mainly because I have no medium to write and share my chemical engineering experiences. I love writing and I have always been an editor of any newsletter or magazine in wherever I studied. That’s the reason, when I discovered about blog, I immediately use it as a way to share my previous and online chemical engineering experiences for the sake of young engineers and students. I strongly believe, online chemical engineering will be a major part of chemical engineering learning curve.

I don’t know what or how you perceive of my idea, but I’m going to develop, enhance and establish myself as one of the contributors to the world of online chemical engineering. I have created “Chemical Engineering Rocks” facebook group which you can freely join and will constantly interact with other group members and those who wants to learn more about chemical engineering. I was also invited by other chemical engineering related Facebook group as either officer or administrators.

I haven’t set an account for chemical engineering twitter. I may do it so later when I have the time. Earlier, I created chemical engineering forum, but to my disappointment, after a year running and having great discussion plus 200 plus members, it was hacked. I don’t have the technical knowledge back then to defense the forum. I’m not sure yet either to start a new chemical engineering forum or not. It depends to the support I receive from other fellow chemical engineers outside there.
