Today, SRI Consulting (SRIC) released its 2008 Process Economics Program (PEP) Yearbook, a valuable and timely yearbook and web based tool that provides itemized production cost data for over 1100 processes, covering 600 commercial chemical and refinery products. Regions covered are the U.S., Germany, Japan and China as well as more limited coverage for Canada and Saudi Arabia.  All of the processes presented are developed using the same assumed capital cost methodology and the same prices for feedstocks and by-products, with economics provided for three production capacity levels that easily allow for scaling and integrated cost analysis.

What can you do with this information?

  • Evaluate the economic viability of new process technologies
  • Compare competing process technologies to make the same product
  • Evaluate the production cost position of your feedstock suppliers or product purchasers
  • Compare your production costs to that of competitors
  • Quantify the economic benefits of production scale
  • Understand the relationship between feedstock cost and product price
  • Evaluate the economic impact of proposed cost saving opportunities

The powerful web-based tool offers quick results to searches on process technology information. Search for process economics by product, raw materials, utility requirements, and price history. Features include unique user defined capacity scaling, which offers easy comparison of processes. Search results can be viewed online, printed or saved as an Excel file.

The 2008 PEP Yearbook includes historical cost data for trend analysis, a summary of raw material prices, and conversion factors. The 2008 PEP Yearbook is issued in six volumes–US, Germany, Japan, and China, with limited information on Canada and Saudi Arabia.
